One note on vocabulary before we start. “Portable power station” and “solar generator” describe the same product. A solar generator is simply a power station sold bundled with panels — there’s no different technology inside. If you’ve been searching both terms and getting different results, that’s why.

How to use this page#

Don’t shop by “best overall.” Shop by capacity class, which follows from your daily watt-hours. If you haven’t done that math, start with what size power station do I need or run the calculator and come back with a number. Everything below assumes you have one.

The single most common mistake is buying one class too small because the sticker price looked friendlier, then discovering on night two that you undersized it. The second most common is buying two classes too big because a sale made it feel like a bargain, then carrying 60 lbs to a tent site.

Judge value by price per watt-hour#

Sticker price tells you almost nothing across capacity classes. Price per watt-hour lets you compare a $299 unit against a $2,799 one honestly. Here’s the whole database, MSRP ÷ rated capacity:

Two things fall out of that table immediately.

The DELTA 3 has quietly reset the 1 kWh class. It’s the same 1,024 Wh as the DELTA 2, with a better cell (4,000 cycles versus 3,000), faster charging (56 minutes versus 80), and more expansion headroom (5 kWh versus 3) — for $300 less. The DELTA 2 is hard to recommend at MSRP while its successor exists at $0.68/Wh.

The Goal Zero Yeti 1000X is an outlier for the wrong reasons. At $1.32/Wh it’s nearly double the DELTA 3, and it’s the only unit here still shipping NMC cells rated for far fewer cycles, with a 9-hour wall recharge. It’s a rugged, well-built legacy platform, but you’re paying a premium for a dated spec sheet.

Picks by capacity class#

~300 Wh — EcoFlow RIVER 2#

At 7.7 lbs and 256 Wh it’s the one you’ll actually carry. A 60-minute full recharge is remarkable at this size, and LiFePO4 at $239 was unheard of two years ago. The 300 W inverter is the limit — it will not run anything with a compressor or a heating element, and you shouldn’t expect it to.

The Jackery Explorer 300 Plus offers slightly more capacity (288 Wh) for $60 more, at $1.04/Wh. If you prefer Jackery’s simpler interface it’s a fair trade; on pure numbers the RIVER 2 wins.

~1,000 Wh — EcoFlow DELTA 3#

The best value in the database, as covered above. 1,024 Wh, 1,800 W continuous with 3,600 W of surge, full recharge in 56 minutes, expandable to 5 kWh, and a 5-year warranty on a cell rated for 4,000 cycles.

The camping caveat: at 27.6 lbs it’s over half again the weight of the Jackery Explorer 1000 v2 at 23.8 lbs. If you’re carrying it any distance, that difference is real, and the Jackery matches it on price-per-watt-hour at $0.93. Weight is the reason the camping pick and the value pick differ.

~2,000 Wh — BLUETTI AC200L#

$0.83/Wh, 2,048 Wh, 2,400 W continuous, expandable to 8,192 Wh. It’s $200 less than the EcoFlow DELTA 2 Max for the same capacity and more expansion room.

The trade is weight and speed: 62.4 lbs versus the DELTA 2 Max’s 50, and 90 minutes to recharge versus 78. For a unit that mostly lives in a garage or an RV bay, we’d take the $200 and the expansion headroom.

The Jackery Explorer 2000 Plus is the outlier in this class at $1.08/Wh — but it has the strongest inverter here (3,000 W continuous, 6,000 W surge) and 12 kWh of expansion. If you need to start a well pump or a large compressor, that surge rating is what you’re paying for.

3,000 Wh+ — EcoFlow DELTA Pro#

3,600 Wh base, expandable to 25 kWh, 3,600 W continuous with 7,200 W surge, and a 30A outlet that plugs straight into RV shore power. At $0.78/Wh it’s better value than most units a third its size.

It also weighs 99 lbs. This is a wheeled appliance you position once, not something you move casually. Sized for a multi-day outage — see the fridge math below — it’s the first unit here that genuinely covers one.

What a class actually runs#

Capacity numbers are abstract. Here’s the same ladder in terms of a refrigerator, which is what most people are really asking about:

What changed in 2026#

Three things worth knowing if your last look at this category was a year or two ago.

LiFePO4 became the default, not the premium option. Every current line from Jackery, EcoFlow, Bluetti and Anker ships it. Chemistry used to be the headline difference between a cheap unit and a good one; now the only NMC unit in our database is a legacy Goal Zero. If a review from 2023 told you to pay extra for LiFePO4, that advice has expired.

Recharge times collapsed. A 1 kWh unit taking five hours from the wall used to be normal. The DELTA 3 does it in 56 minutes and the Anker SOLIX C1000 in 58. The Goal Zero Yeti 1000X’s 9 hours now looks like a different era, because it is.

Expansion became mainstream. Modular add-on batteries used to be a home-backup-only feature. Now a $699 DELTA 3 grows to 5 kWh. That changes the buying logic: you can start in the 1 kWh class and grow, rather than overbuying up front against a future you’re guessing at.

We do not score noise, thermal behaviour, or long-term reliability, because we have not tested these units in the field — this site is spec-driven research, and we’d rather say so than invent a decibel figure. Where a claim comes from a manufacturer’s manual, that’s what it is.

On price#

Every figure on this page is MSRP. Street prices in this category swing 30–40% and sales are frequent — Prime Day, Black Friday, Memorial Day, and each brand’s own anniversary events all reliably discount deeply.

Never pay list price for a power station. If you’re not in a hurry, wait for an event. If you are, check the brand’s own site against Amazon; they undercut each other unpredictably. We quote MSRP because it’s the only number that doesn’t go stale the week after we publish it.

There is no single best unit — only the best unit for a load and a budget. Start from your daily watt-hours, then pick within that capacity class. If you want one answer anyway: at 1 kWh, the EcoFlow DELTA 3 is the best value in our database at $0.68 per watt-hour.
What brands make the best power stations?
Jackery, EcoFlow, Bluetti, Anker SOLIX, and Goal Zero make the most widely-supported units in the US. All five now ship LiFePO4 batteries in their current lines, with one notable exception: Goal Zero's Yeti 1000X still uses older NMC chemistry. Differences otherwise come down to recharge speed, expansion options, and price per watt-hour.
How much should I spend on a portable power station?
Judge by price per watt-hour rather than sticker price. Anything under $0.80/Wh is good value in 2026, $0.80–1.00 is normal, and above $1.10 needs a specific justification. Sales are frequent and deep — 30–40% off MSRP is common, so never pay list price.
Is LiFePO4 worth paying more for?
Yes, in almost every case. LiFePO4 cells last roughly 3,000–4,000 cycles to 80% capacity versus around 500 for the older NMC chemistry — six to eight times the usable life. They also hold charge better in storage, which matters for a unit that sits waiting for an outage.
