Where they actually differ#

Weight, honestly#

Twelve and a half pounds of difference — 50 versus 62.4, with neither unit carrying wheels, so every move is a lift — is the difference between a unit one adult moves and a unit that stays where two people put it. The DELTA 2 Max slides under a van seat, rides to a campsite, and relocates room-to-room mid-outage without ceremony; the AC200L is, in practice, installed equipment. Neither number is a flaw. They’re different products wearing the same capacity, and how often the unit will move is the first question to answer — before price.

Surge headroom#

Both run 2,400 W continuous, so steady loads — fridge, microwave, space heater, kitchen appliances — tie exactly. Start-up spikes don’t: 4,800 W on the Max against 3,600 W on the AC200L. Applying the five-times rule from our fridge guide, the Max confidently starts motors drawing up to ~960 W running; the AC200L up to ~720 W. Household fridges (120 W running) are trivial for both. The gap decides at well pumps, sump pumps, and older RV air conditioners — if one of those anchors your outage plan, the Max’s surge is worth its $200 premium by itself.

Solar input#

The AC200L accepts 1,200 W of panel input to the Max’s 1,000 W — ideal-sun refills of about 1.7 hours versus 2.0 (2,048 ÷ input). Both figures comfortably out-earn a fridge-day; the AC200L’s advantage compounds in expanded systems, where the same input has to refill 6–8 kWh of bank during the same clear afternoon. Recharge from the wall#

About 78 minutes for the Max, about 90 for the AC200L — both excellent, the Max’s edge worth most when wall power itself is scarce: one generator-hour returns essentially a full pack on the Max and ~90% on the AC200L. Expansion and the 30A outlet#

The AC200L grows to 8,192 Wh against the Max’s 6,144 — roughly three days of the ~2,200 Wh/day essentials load versus about two and a half (capacity × 0.85 ÷ 2,192). It also carries the 30A outlet that lets an RV’s shore inlet or a transfer switch take power at full rate, a socket the Max simply doesn’t have. Price per watt-hour#

At MSRP: $0.83/Wh for the AC200L (1,699 ÷ 2,048) against $0.93/Wh for the DELTA 2 Max (1,899 ÷ 2,048) — a 12% premium for the Max’s mobility, surge, and charging speed. Both discount hard in sale seasons; the ratio between them tends to survive the discounts, so the comparison you run at list price usually holds at sale price too.

In an outage, hour by hour#

Walk a storm outage through both units and the differences surface on a schedule. Hour zero: either starts the fridge without drama and carries the evening’s essentials — fridge, router, lamps — at a combined draw around 75 W, spending about 4% of usable capacity per hour (75 ÷ 1,741). Overnight adds a CPAP; both units greet the morning above 60%. Day two is where the spec sheet starts voting. If the sun comes out, the AC200L’s 1,200 W input rebuilds a full day of essentials by early afternoon while the Max needs an extra hour of the same sky. If instead a neighbor’s generator or a restored circuit offers an hour of wall power, the Max banks a nearly full pack in it and the AC200L about 85% of one. And if the sump pump kicks on because the storm brought water with it, the Max’s 4,800 W surge shrugs at a start-up spike that has the AC200L’s 3,600 W working near its ceiling. The ecosystem question#

Both brands back these units with 5-year warranties and app control over Wi-Fi or Bluetooth — charge-rate limits, port toggles, firmware updates — and neither locks you into first-party solar. The differences are at the edges of the ecosystems.
